My Simple Holiday Party Makeup

I'll start this post with a few bits of advice on what not to do on the day of any important events you're planning to attend to. First of all - do not go to a hair salon you've never been to before to have your hair done.

God knows I needed something stronger than a cup of coffee to calm my nerves after I walked out of my salon in Santana Row. My hair stylist started making my hair the wrong way from the very beginning so the whole composition (can I call it that?) was wrong at the very core. But she was refusing to redo what she's done, instead she was trying to persuade me that I don't understand anything about hair styling and that it can't be done the way I want it to. She threw at me phrases like: "your hair is too healthy, I'll have to work with that", "your hair is too dark/long to make it look like that", "your head is a different shape, so the way I did your hair makes it look much better than that thing on the photo you showed me", "no no! it looks so renaissancy (seriously?), let me take a picture you'll see how great it is". And than she took a few pictures and mumbled with a rather less enthusiastic tone in her voice "oh actually it doesn't photograph well, let me fix it". You don't say. Ugh.

Here's your typical case "expectations vs reality". I kept telling my stylist that that bump on my head looks hideous and that it should be gone, that I wanted fluffier braids. Anyway, she ended up fixing into something slightly resembling the picture and for that I paid $80. I left that salon shaken with silent anger and in no mood to party any time soon. But it was nothing a cocktail and a delicious lunch could not fix.
After that comes second advice - do not under any circumstances walk into makeup/clothing store. Or any store for that matter. Any shopping before the event should be prohibited, run all those sorts of errands at least a few days ahead! You know where I'm going with this advice, don't you? I went shopping for makeup and presents after lunch and time flew mercilessly fast.
All that adventures left me with roughly about 30 min to get ready. I wore a simple cream-color dress by Warehouse which gave me a perfect opportunity to wear bold lip color. Here's the full list of products I used:
